Well. I've decided share a little on how the Mind's Eye skill works in relation to certain Ammo.
Mind's eye is described in the game as "Prevents attacks from being deflected. Also shortens the distance before ammo and arrows reach maximum power "
In this post I will be sharing about the ammo part in particular and the utility aspects to this.
I will be using a LBG roll as a unit of distance in this game (aka sweet roll)
Normal Ammo has a Min range before damage falls off as well as a max range before damage falls off.
Do take note depending on the ammunition type both ranges changes. (e.g. spread, normal, pierce)
Spread ammo has no min range by default and its max range is not affected by this skill
Pierce ammo has a Min range before damage falls off as well as a max range before damage falls off.

Pierce 1 Overview
Pierce 1 Upclose comparison
The minimum range before damage falls off is approximately half a roll away from your target with normal ammo
What Mind's Eye does is it completely removes the minimum range on normal ammo and pierce ammo.
You could prod your gun in Nergigante’s face to shoot and still maintain your highest damage with pierce or normal. (Spread has no minimum range by default)
The maximum range before damage fall off is approximately 2 and a half rolls away from your target with normal ammo.
Mind's Eye extends this range by an additional 1 roll. So, 3 and a half sweet rolls.
More range allows you to roam further away from the monster while still dealing damage.
Close Range up (Gun Modifications)
With Mind's eye, you’ll find it easier to dance around monster and still maintain max close-range damage from close range up. (Won’t have to worry about that half a roll damage fall off)
Long Range up (Gun Modifications)
With Mind's eye, you’ll have an extended range and a shorter minimum range for pierce ammo to reach max damage.
Critical Distance Reticle
(As per requested by Seastorm14 thanks friend)
So I did this addition to show how the critical distance reticle works in MHW.
This happens with or without Mind’s eye.
I used normal ammo so I could see values clearly.
The critical distance reticle is supposed to indicate whether you are in max range or dealing effective damage.
(when I refer to the effective damage, I am referring to the limit to when you’re dealing more than single digits)
But it doesn’t actually extend to the exact limit of your max range.
Your exact limit is actually approximately 1/4 of a sweet roll away from where your reticle actually indicates when you’re in max range.
(Tested with both HBG and LBG)
(Sweet roll refers to 1 LBG roll)
Sooo you may still be within your critical distance despite the reticle not indicating.
here are some images with the reticles to show how it works

Yay! You read this post finish. I hope I might have helped clear some doubt towards how to use this skill. Thanks for reading and Happy hunting!
