Hey everyone,

so back then i already posted my SwitchAxe builds that i was mainly using back then old thread. The thread was mainly appreciated and since then some time past, we got the dante, kulve, arch tempered sets etc. and at least for me my meta builds have heavily shifted. So i thought its time to share my builds again. Keep in mind im not claiming those builds being the best builds or anything. They are just the builds im using being a SwitchAxe main player and maybe inspire other people to try this awesome weapon.

So these are the builds i wanna show you guys:

  • Arch Kirin and Arch Vaal
  • Blast set
  • Raw dmg set
  • Dragon Element sets (multiple builds)
  • Elemental sets (Ice/ Fire)
  • Para and Exhaust set

A little disclaimer, i use the Kulve Taroth alpha chest because of the look. In almost every build you could replace it with the beta version in case u're lacking a critical boost decoration.

Arch Kirin and Arch Vaal

  • First the Arch Kirin set:
Build/ Armor Decorations in each slot Level Skills
Arch Kirin
Head: Nergigante Helm ß 1x Attack, 1x Thunder Res 4/7 Attack Boost
Chest: Kulve Taroth's Ire ß 1x CritBoost, 1x Stun Res 3/3 Stun Res
Arms: Empress Vambraces a Sharp Jewel 3/3 Blast Atk.
Waist: Empress Coil a Mighty Jewel, Tool Spec. 3/3 Thunder Res
Legs: Dante's Leather Boots a 2x Thunder Res 3/3 CritBoost
Charm: Attack Charm III 3/3 Weakness Expl.
Weapon: Empress Axe "Styx" 1x CritBoost, 1x Tenderizer 3/3 Maximum Might
3/3 Tool Spec.
2/5 Wide Range
Protective Polish
Razor Sharp
2set Lunastra Favor

So this set offers a lot of Dmg with its offensive skills. High affinity thanks to weakness exploit and maximum might, which is always active in sword mode lead to high affinity in combination with crit boost lvl3. On top you have atk boost and blast attack to increase the dmg further. Stun and Thunder res (above 20) helps preventing being stunned/ paralyzed and then killed in the follow up attack. Protective polish together with razor sharp basically keep your weapon all time in white sharpness and Tool specialist is very handy vs kirin. Reducing the cooldown on your mantles helps your burst dmg time while temporal mantle is up and thunderproof mantle reduces the dmg.

  • The Arch Vaal Hazak sets

For this one i have 2 sets. 1 offensive one that i use when playing alone and 1 set that has still decent dmg but alot of survive skills as well.

Build/ Armor Decorations in each slot Level Skills
Arch Vaal 1 offensive
Head: Nergigante Helm ß 2x Miasma 4/7 Attack Boost
Chest: Kulve Taroth's Ire ß 1x CritBoost, 1x Stun Res 3/3 Stun Res
Arms: Nergigante Vambraces a 3/3 CritBoost
Waist: Nergigante Coil ß 1x Tenderizer 3/3 Weakness Expl.
Legs: Dante's Leather Boots a 1x Miasma, 1x Attack 3/5 Handicraft
Charm: Handicraft Charm III 3/3 Effluvia Resistance
Weapon: Hazak Demios II 1x CritBoost 2/5 Agitator
2/3 Maximum Might
3set Nergigante Hunger
Build/ Armor Decorations in each slot Level Skills
Arch Vaal 2 survivor
Head: Vaal Hazak Helm y Tenderizer 3/3 Stun Res
Chest: Kulve Taroth's Ire ß 1x CritBoost, 1x Stun Res 3/3 Health Boost
Arms: Vaal Hazak Braces ß 3x Miasma 3/3 CritBoost
Waist: Vaal Hazak Coil y 1x CritBoost, 1x Stun Res, 1x Medicine 3/3 Weakness Expl.
Legs: Vaal Hazak Greaves y 1x Flawless, 1x Vitality 3/3 Recovery Up
Charm: Exploiter Charm II 3/3 Recovery Speed
Weapon: Dying Light Vitality 3/3 Effluvia Resistance
3/3 Peak Performance
2/5 Dragon Attack
3set Vaal Hazak Vitality

So as mentioned already the first set is more aggressive and i usually use it solo only. Both sets should have the Health regen weapon augmentation but the first set recovers its HP by dealing dmg mainly (nergi bonus), while 2nd set recovers health passively (vaal hazak bonus). So the 2nd set enables a more safely approach so you dont get cartet that often, while still giving enough dmg output with Weakness exploit, critboost and peak performance. Thanks to vaal hazak bonus, recovery up, recovery spd and health augmentation its possible to have some peak performance uptime even fighting vaal. I use the temporal mantle + vitality mantle here to make it easier keeping peak performance up.

Blast Set

Build/ Armor Decorations in each slot Level Skills
Blast Set
Head: Nergigante Helm ß 2x Blast Attack 4/7 Attack Boost
Chest: Kulve Taroth's Ire ß 1x CritBoost, 1x Attack 4/5 Agitator
Arms: Nergigante Vambraces a 3/3 CritBoost
Waist: Nergigante Coil ß Mighty Jewel 3/3 Weakness Expl.
Legs: Dante's Leather Boots a 1x Blast Atk, 1x Stun Res 3/3 Stun Res
Charm: Challenger Charm II 3/3 Blast Atk.
Weapon: Empress Axe "Styx" 1xCritBoost, 1xTenderizer 3/3 Maximum Might
Razor Sharp
3set Nergigante Hunger

This set is my go no Nergi set. got sub 3 min tempered nergi runs with it. Deals alot of dmg while providing enough sustain with Health regen augmentation and Nergis set bonus. Due to the high affinity white sharpness remains pretty long.

Raw Dmg set

Build/ Armor Decorations in each slot Level Skills
Raw Dmg
Head: Nergigante Helm ß 1x Attack, 1x Expert 5/5 Handicraft
Chest: Kushala Cista ß 1x Sharp 4/7 Attack Boost
Arms: Nergigante Vambraces ß 1x Attack 4/7 Critical Eye
Waist: Nergigante Coil ß Elementless 2/3 Weakness Expl.
Legs: Dante's Leather Boots a 2x Expert 2/3 Agitator
Charm: Handicraft Charm III 2/3 Maximum Might
Weapon: Axe of Demons 1x Expert Protective Polish
Non-Elemental Boost
3set Nergigante Hunger

My current raw dmg set. It doesnt have 3/3 Weakness exploit but gains a lot affinity from different sources like Agitator, Critical Eye and Maximum Might resulting in 46% affinity vs weak spots when in sword mode and Agitator active. I use this set usually vs mons that have weakness to Water or Thunder since i dont think those weapons can keep up with the raw dmg from this one. For Fire/ Dragon/ Ice i use different sets.

The Dragon sets

Since Switchaxe is my main weapon and there are so many dragon elemental SwAxes i use different type of builds for some weapons. I have 5 different dragon sets based on the different weapons to get some variety farming rathalos, rathian etc. They all are a bit different. Focused on raw dmg or high affinity or high phial dmg etc.

Power Smasher offensive Set
Head: Rathalos Helm ß 1x Dragon Atk. 4/7 Attack Boost
Chest: Kulve Taroth's Ire ß 1x Mighty, 1x Stun Res. 4/5 Dragon Attack
Arms: Vaal Hazak Braces y 1x CritBoost, 1x Tenderizer 3/3 Critical Boost

Legs: Azure Starlord Guards a 1x Elementless 3/3 Stun Res
Charm: Exploiter Charm II 3/3 Maximum Might
Weapon: Power Smasher II Non-elemental Boost
2set Rathalos Mastery

Elemental Sets

I basically only use 1 ice set and 1 fire set. The Kirin SwAxe and the Water SwAxe just kinda seem inferior to a raw dmg set imo, so first lets start with the Ice set:

Read:  Non-Hunter Reviews The Canteen on Yelp
Build/ Armor Decorations in each slot Level Skills
Ice Set
Head: Kushala Glare a 5/7 Attack Boost
Chest: Kushala Cista ß 1x Tenderizer 4/5 Handicraft
Arms: Kulve Taroth's Rage ß 1x Release, 1x Attack 3/3 Free Elem/Ammo Up
Waist: Kulve Taroth's Malice ß 1x Sharp, 1x Stun Res 3/3 Weakness Expl.
Legs: Dante's Leather Boots a 2x Stun Res 3/3 Stun Res
Charm: Attack Charm III 2/5 Ice Attack
Weapon: Axe of Demons 1x Attack 1/3 Power-Prolonger
Protective Polish

So this set is my go to set vs all monsters weak to Ice. it just melts Diablos and i honestly couldnt find a build with legianas SwAxe thats comparable to this one in terms of dmg (and i tried many including the azure starlord set parts).

Build/ Armor Decorations in each slot Level Skills
Fire Set
Head: Dragonking Eyepatch a 1x Mighty 4/7 Attack Boost
Chest: Kulve Taroth's Ire ß 1x CritBoost, 1x Attack 3/3 Maximum Might
Arms: Kaiser Vembraces ß 1x Mighty 3/3 Critical Boost
Waist: Rathalos Coil ß 1x Sharp 3/3 Weakness Expl.
Legs: Azure Starlord Guards a 1x Mighty 3/3 Stun Res
Charm: Attack Charm III 2/5 Fire Attack
Weapon: Rathbringer Axe II 1x Stun Res Protective Polish
2set Rathalos Mastery

Unfortunately there arent many monsters weak to fire, but when i fight one i always pick this set. Just makes a lot of fun to fight with one of the rare fire elements and it deals a lot of dmg due to high affinity with max critical boost and the 2set bonus critical element from rathalos.

Paralyze and Exhaust Sets:

My paralyze and exhaust sets are both very offensive since i just like this playstyle. Nothing really important to mention here =D

Build/ Armor Decorations in each slot Level Skills
Paralyze Set
Head: Nergigante Helm ß 2x Paralyzer 4/7 Attack Boost
Chest: Kulve Taroth's Ire a 1x Stun Res 3/3 Paralysis Attack
Arms: Kaiser Vembraces ß 1x Mighty 3/3 Critical Boost
Waist: Nergigante Coil ß 1x CritBoost 3/3 Weakness Expl.
Legs: Dante's Leather Boots a 2x Attack 3/3 Stun Res
Charm: Handicraft Charm III 3/5 Handicraft
Weapon: Baroth Grinder III 1x Attack 3/3 Maximum Might
Non-Elemental Boost

Since theres no room for protective polish i use the Handicraft charm to extend sharpness to a long blue one, which makes it a lot more handier to play.

Build/ Armor Decorations in each slot Level Skills
Exhaust Set
Head: Nergigante Helm ß 2x Drain 6/7 Attack Boost
Chest: Kulve Taroth's Ire ß 1x CritBoost, 1x Stun Res 3/3 Stamina Thief
Arms: Kaiser Vembraces ß 1x Mighty 3/3 Critical Boost
Waist: Nergigante Coil ß 1x Sharp 3/3 Weakness Expl.
Legs: Dante's Leather Boots a 1x Attack, 1x Stun Res 3/3 Stun Res
Charm: Attack Charm III 3/3 Maximum Might
Weapon: Jagras Raider III 1x Elementless, 1x CritBoost Protective Polish
Non-Elemental Boost

Wow this post took a lot longer than i expected xD hope the formating was worth it and you guys enjoy this post =)
