Before I start, I beat Alatreon multiple times both solo, duo, and more

Before, it was just repelling massive siege-type monsters such as George(Gogmazios) or Lao Shan Lung, but I think what they did with the deviant monsters in MHGU were extremely engaging and that is actually the monster MH-esque way to make the game harder. Dreadqueen Rathian's hyper-poison, Dreadking Rathalos' Super Smash Bros-like fireball ult (lots of dmg but is not a guaranteed cart), etc.

As a veteran hunter who's been playing since 2005, Monster Hunter Freedom on PSP, I feel that each new iteration of the game introduced something new in a very "open" way. That is to say, whenever there was a seemingly outrageous mechanic at the time, there were always so many ways to avoid it.

MH4 introduced vertically fast monsters like Nerscylla and Kechawacha, but a new weapon type Insect Glaive was introduced which allpwed hunters to catch up, as well as adding jumping moves to weapons like SnS and Lance. We had choices.

But these DPS checks are just normal fights that tell you to go home if a certain threshold is not met. The fights themselves are extremely engaging already. There just isn't a need to keep people more engaged. I mean the criticism on Alatreon already speaks for itself, same for when Kulve came out, Safi, etc.

Like many have said already, Behemoth having one-hit kill ultimate move makes sense because it was carried over from another game, but this is…Monster Hunter, not some MMO.

If they wanted to make the fight more engaging, then they could've added other crazy moves or make the monster faster, or whatnot, I don't know. But guaranteed cart moves are gimmicks and not something that belongs to Monster Hunter because it ends hunts instantly without any ways to do things differently.

For Alatreon, we HAVE to pick an elemental weapon and just keep attacking, and nothing else. Only option. For Safi, we HAVE to hide behind a rock for the ult, only option. Also, for Safi, I've seen almost 99% of the people successfully hide behind the rock. So I don't even get what the point is. I guess it's for the show? But if that's the case. It should've been like Bloodbath Diablos where you have to invinci-dive so you still feel "engaged" and intense during the whole thing instead if dragging yourself to the rock and just sharpen your sword, drink your dash juice or something.

Anyway, I just thought that we shouldn't really lose track of what's happening to MH just because more and more people are beating it. I mean that's definitely why the opinion of the majority are shifting towards Alatreon being ok.

Tl;dr : Alatreon as a Monster is great. Just not the way it hints at the future of Monster Hunter.
