Ironically, Monster Hunter 1 for the PS2; The first Monster Hunter game… Was my first Monster Hunter game. Go figure, right?
Anyway, I played it in 2012 when the servers were shut down so my only means of playing was the Village. Despite how brutal & unforgiving the first game is, I somehow managed to learn, adapt & get into the series with what is widely considered to be the worst title in the series. I guess I just have high tolerance for bullshit. Maybe this is why I like fighting Extreme Behemoth so much.
Regardless, in MH1, I got WALLED HARD by Kut-Ku. Yeah. Fuckin' scrawny-ass Thanksgiving Turkey of all things was a major road block for me. Eventually… I ended up persisting & succeeding so I could finally experience the rest of the game. I beat every quest in the Village, defeated Diablos, completed that horrendous Powderstone mission… And unfortunately… I simply could not beat the dreadful "A Troublesome Pair" quest before moving on to Tri. I'm convinced that quest is impossible with Low Rank gear. I tried many times… Killed Rathian & got Rathalos to limp. I developed strategies, used all of my strongest buffing items & equipment available to me but I just couldn't do it. I always either timed out or triple carted. I don't beat myself up over it though because I'm sure the only way you can actually beat that quest with Low Rank gear is if you're a Perfect Speedrunner. To be honest, I don't think I'll ever be that good at Monster Hunter.
Over the next 7 years, I played every subsequent game that released from 3U to 4U to Gen & GU… And finally World. I sharpened my brain, made better sets & honed my skills like any well oiled & hardened Veteran should at this point.
As for my Greatest Achievement in the series so far, it actually happened just recently. You might have even seen my post about it.
I Soloed Behemoth
It sapped every last bit of strength & mental will I had. It required patience, careful strategy & a lot of skill… But I just barely made it by the skin of my teeth. Never have I had a hunt quite so close. It came down to me being forced to jump the Final Ecliptic Meteor. If I mistimed it… I would've failed. It was a ridiculously wild ride. Such an unforgettable experience.
Sadly, soloing Extreme Behemoth & Ancient Leshen are in the realm of doing A Troublesome Pair with Low Rank gear. These quests are simply too demanding to solo… Even for me. I don't really care that much though. I already proved my worth by soloing Normal Behemoth which is good enough for me. Besides… I enjoy Multiplayer more anyway.
So what's your story?
