If you're coming from the New World then you're probably pretty familiar with Rations. However in classic MH games, Rations are a field item only. Meaning you can't craft or stockpile them in town. You might be tempted to start carrying Well-Done steaks, but really you should only carry a single steak into a hunt to get yourself started on stamina if at all. You see the animation for eating a Steak is really, really, long. This means that if you don't need as much stamina as the steak gives, or if your stamina depletes mid-hunt and you want to top off, the steak is a detriment to your hunt. Energy Drinks, however, use the same animation has Potions and Rations, much quicker, and easy to top off mid-hunt if need be without moving to another zone.
In Gen you have to wait for Raw meat to show up in the special goods section at the trader. And then you're forced to spend a huge chunk of your resource points right then and there. Then you have to wait for felyne kitchen to slowly cook them 10 pieces per hunt. The ingredients for Energy Drinks can be traded for any time once you have access to the moga bee yard, and can all be combined right away. Meaning you can quickly amass large amounts of energy drinks, meaning you can go longer without thinking about your mid-hunt snacks.
Well-Done Steaks can cure bleeding if you're crazy enough to stand still and eat it mid fight. Or you can cure bleeding much safer with sushi fish or even by crouching for a bit, you can even still move around while crouching. Energy drinks can cure you of the sleep status. Outside of taking a hit or falling off a ledge there is no other way to fight off sleep.
Good for your health
Well-Done Steaks are the wild west of mid-hunt snacks! You don't know if that Aptonoth had any parasites or anything! Energy Drinks on the other hand are Hunter's Guild regulated, and guaranteed safe for consumption.
