Overwatch10 - Archives 2019 Skinwatch

Keep the following details in mind:

a) All heroes have a minimum of one default skin (which isn't counted), four Rare alternate colors, two Epic alternate colors, and four Legendary skins.

b) Rare and Epic skins are usually palette/texture swaps of the default outfit, while Legendary skins have unique geometry. Later Epic skins are breaking this mold (see Venom: 76).

c) For the base four Legendary skins, every hero has two palette swaps of two distinct legendary skins.

d) For Legendary skins added beyond the original four, there MAY be an alternate color, but not always.

In terms of overall skin count:

  1. 20 – McCree, Tracer
  2. 19 – Bastion, Widowmaker
  3. 18 – Junkrat, Lucio, Mei, Mercy, Reinhardt, Torbjorn, Zarya
  4. 17 – Dva, Pharah, Reaper, Soldier:76, Sombra, Symmetra, Zenyatta
  5. 16 – Ana, Genji, Hanzo, Roadhog
  6. 15 – Winston
  7. 14 – Doomfist, Moira, Orisa
  8. 13 – Brigitte
  9. 12 – Ashe, Wrecking Ball
  10. 11 – Baptiste

In terms of legendary skins:

  1. 12 – Tracer
  2. 11 – Mei, Torbjorn, Zarya, Widowmaker
  3. 10 – Lucio, Mercy, McCree
  4. 9 – Genji, Hanzo, Roadhog, Dva, Pharah, Reaper, Soldier:76, Sombra, Zenyatta, Junkrat, Reinhardt
  5. 8 – Doomfist, Winston, Symmetra, Bastion
  6. 7 – Moira, Orisa, Ana
  7. 5 – Ashe, Baptiste, Brigitte, Wrecking Ball

Note: When you account for certain characters have recolors of legendary skins, the number of UNIQUE legendary appearances is closer together.

  1. 11 – Tracer
  2. 10 – Mei, Torbjorn, Zarya, Widowmaker, Mercy, McCree
  3. 9 – Lucio, Genji, Hanzo, Roadhog, Dva, Pharah, Reaper, Soldier:76, Sombra, Zenyatta, Junkrat,

  1. With the addition of the Bastet challenge (after the Nano Cola challenge back in August '18), we now have a bonus event type that may come into play during the lull between other events. This would play into a strategy of there always being something to earn in the game through playing that isn't just lootboxes.
  2. The Year 3 cycle settled into a pattern of 9 skins per event (though LNY dropped one fewer epic for some reason) with six legendaries and three epics. This is greater consistency and greater overall skins than Year 2, where the number varied between 6-8, though all of the skins from Year 2 events were legendaries.
  3. Genji has the longest streak of receiving no skins from in-game events, with nothing added since the excellent Baihu skin in LNY '18. He DID break that up in August with the Pacific All-Star skin from the OWL All-Star weekend, but the fact that he's not getting a new skin in Archives this year means his streak continues.
  4. Here's an odd coincidence: Ana, Dva, Roadhog and Winston all received legendary skins from the Summer Games in 2018, but have been dry from events ever since. Ana and Dva, however, both received epic skins from their Hero Challenge events (Dva's in August after gamescom into early September, Ana's in early January).
  5. It continues to bewilder me that Roadhog didn't receive a skin from LNY 19 given that it is literally the Year of the Pig. Yeah, could be that there just wasn't a way to top Bajie, but still.

Please let me know if I missed anything, and best of luck collecting the new Halloween Terror skins!

Also, feel free to speculate about what we'll see for Anniversary skins next month, and if we maybe need a new model for skin acquisition or cosmetics going forward.
