Can we please get some accessability for deaf people? Not being able to hear ults and important sounds is absolutely killer and is an extreme disadvantage that can easily be solved by visual cues.

Overwatch6 - Can we please get some accessability for deaf people? Not being able to hear ults and important sounds is absolutely killer and is an extreme disadvantage that can easily be solved by visual cues.

This game is MASSIVE. Such a large playerbase! So how come after all this time there's no accessability options for people that are deaf or simply have no access to audio? It's quite mind boggling.

Edit: Can someone actually go in depth on what advantages this would give over audio? If you're going to hear the sound anyways, then in what way could it be advantageous?

Edit 2: Okay, seriously. Giving visual cues over audio would not give an advantage. Here's my reasoning:

1) Any player worth their salt can hear every ult callout and determine the location of it. If not, then they would be put at a level playing field by having visual cues so that they can still make gameplay based decisions without having the difficulty of hearing come into play.

2) Footsteps, voice lines and other minor, suble callouts don't need to be subtitles. If they gave away a sombra by calling out her voice line along with direction, then we don't need that, as it's clearly advantageous compared to audio.

3) "Being able to see every ult callout and sounds in a chaotic situation." Uh, no. See, the thing is when there's 20 different sounds going on, all of which are important, then it becomes very clustered and hard to filter through, just like with audio. You're dedicating your focus and attention that could be used for aiming, spacial awareness, or positioning to reading the different visual cues and sifting through the mass amounts of them. It's still more advantageous to use audio, as you can have that in the background giving you information without sacrificing critical sight of what's going on in the battlefield.

4) Disabling audio for visual only. Dude, no. Hard of hearing people still enjoy the sounds of the game, but it's the important callouts that sometimes fail them. Having visual callouts along with audio callouts just means you're dedicating previous attention over to reading what could simply be heard if one had perfect hearing. No advantage given to people who can fully use audio.

5) "Visual cues are easier to react to." I suppose if you had less experience, maybe. But a player on the OWL team who knows ult callouts and important sounds by heart won't need the visual cues, as they already know what's going on. To rephrase: Players who can already listen perfectly won't get an advantage because they already know the sounds. If they can't hear the sounds, then they have to sacrifice attention to read all of the sounds, which could take away crucial time spent aiming or other things. The subtler sounds don't need to have visual cues, either.

6) "It won't make a difference, deaf people are screwed anyway." My god, this is an extremely disrespectful comment. Yes, I've seen this on here. Seriously guys, deaf people enjoy this game too, it's a masterpiece, and knowing when the biggest mechanics of the game are being called out are critical to reacting and surviving.

7) "It's oversimplification of the mechanics of audio in this game." This is a complex audio system, no doubt about it. You need direction, loudness, and clarity to understand what's going on. So when visual cues take out 66% of those elements (Direction and loudness would probably just clutter up the visual cues) and it makes it simpler, how is that an advantage? You're taking out most of the useful information that people with audio already have access to. I don't get it.

8) "Visual cues would never be missed, vs. audio which could sometimes be missed." While this is a good point, remember that taking your eyes off of what you're looking at to read all of the audio cues takes up valuable time and could lead to much more slipups vs. looking ahead at all times and hearing the audio in the background. You're sacrificing crucial attention for something you can already do if you're skilled enough. Audio is still more effective if you're a better player. Yes, if you're a player who can't determine sounds as well, the visual cues give you guaranteed information, but at the cost of attention and distraction.

8) "x feature give a slight advantage over players." If players really care that much about getting a small advantage over other players, then the option would be readily available for them, too. It's equal on both sides if they want to be super competetive about it.

9) "But if X was implemented it'd give a large advantage." Simple. Don't implement that exact feature. Think of in what way it could be added in to where it's balanced. Seriously.

Please, there is no advantage for having visual cues over audio, besides having the awesome deaf and HoH community be able to play this amazing game.
