Hey everyone,

Today, we're proud to announce the recent addition of a new feature to our subreddit: Community Awards!

Community awards can be given to a user's comment or submission much like silver, gold, and platinum by clicking 'give award' under a comment or submission. You will then see a

popup where you can choose the award you'd like to give. On the left is the list of choices. Your standard silver, gold, and platinum can be found at the top. Below them are the RedDeadRedemption Awards. On the right is the cost, a description of the award, an option to make the gift anonymous, and an option to add a message.

Community Awards do not grant the recipient Reddit Premium or coins. It only adds the award's icon to the comment/submission. Additionally, 20% of the coins spent are deposited into the subreddit's very own coin balance, which the moderators can use to give awards back to the community.

What are the differences between all the awards?

Not too long ago, the awards system on Reddit was changed, and along with it, silver and platinum were added. Now all this… there's a lot to keep track of. Here's a breakdown:

Coins granted to the Community Balance: 20% of the coins spent on Community Awards

Transparency Time

20% of the coins spent on Community Awards will go to the Community Balance, which is in the control of the moderation team. These coins can be spent on awards for users.

We intend to use these coins to give awards to people who: win giveaways, contests, competitions; submit posts that win Best of RedDeadRedemption categories; etc. I'm not sure if the admins have provided or will provide any tools for the community to monitor the use of the community's coins, but rest assured they will only ever be reinvested in the RedDeadRedemption community. In the past, coins given to subreddits by the admins were simply deposited into one of the moderator's accounts, and I carefully kept track of where the coins were going. I would be open to the idea of doing this again to provide a way for all of you to know what's going on with the community's coins.

Suggestions Welcome

If you have any suggestions for Community Awards for our subreddit, please let us know! We currently have two, reusing the same upvote and downvote icons made by /u/Official_Felis_Catus. That gives us 18 more slots to fill! Even better, if you want to design an award for the subreddit, we'd love to see it! Just make sure you clear it with us first before investing your time in it. We'll grant our special VIP flair to anyone whose design is chosen for an award.

If you have any suggestions for Community Awards as a Reddit feature, either send them to the admins (ideasfortheadmins) or leave them in the comments below, where we can pass them along.

Enjoy the new feature!

Edit: This post is only a few minutes old and this post has already been awarded Honor + twice! Thank you to the sender(s) for generously donating 200 coins to the community balance and helping demonstrate what Community Awards look like!
